Fibroids
Naturopathic Fibroid Treatment
Fibroids grow in response to estrogen exposure. Progesterone counters this growth. With perimenopause being an estrogen dominant phase in life – more estrogen relative to progesterone due to a reduction in ovulation – fibroids may increase in size or number. As fibroids grow or multiply, menstrual symptoms may become worse.
Fibroids often shrink in menopause when hormones are consistently low, but depending upon the size and number, persistent bladder or bowel symptoms may persist. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is still an option if you have fibroids, but special consideration in dosing and the selection of hormones used is important.
If you are experiencing heavy periods, cramping and painful periods, spotting, feelings of fullness or frequent urination, you may want to get screened for fibroids. Dr. Hamilton can help with diagnosing and treating fibroids. She offers in-person visits in Milwaukie, OR, and virtual visits for all Oregon and Washington residents.
